The new photomicrography
نویسنده
چکیده
Peter Evennett took his first degree in Zoology at the University of Liverpool and his PhD at St Andrews, during which time his interests in microscopy developed. He lectured in Zoology at the University of Leeds, UK, for more than 30 years, with a particular interest in histology, cell biology and, of course, light and electron microscopy. He retired early from the University, and now concentrates on his interests in microscopy, including teaching courses on microscopy for the RMS and independently. He is particularly interested in the fundamental principles of the light microscope and in finding simple ways of teaching and demonstrating them to both new and established microscopists, and also in helping amateur microscopists. Peter is Honorary Archivist of the Royal Microscopical Society, and an Honorary Fellow of the Society.

The Olympus–Current Biology photomicrography competition This spectacular image of mitosis in a newt lung cell is the winning entry in the Olympus–Current Biology photomicrography competition. — using epithelial lung cells of the Northwestern rough skinned newt (Taricha granulosa). This cell is in late anaphase or early telophase of mitosis. Three fluorescent probes have been used to reveal dif...
متن کاملAdaptations of Goldner's Masson trichrome stain for the study of undecalcified plastic embedded bone.
Specialized adaptations for application of Goldner's Masson trichrome stain to plastic embedded undecalcified bone specimens are presented. This stain can be used successfully on methyl-glycol methacrylate, glycol methacrylate and Spurr embedded bones. The stain affords the advantage of good cellular staining due to the hematoxylin component with concomitant sharp discrimination of mature bone ...
متن کاملTwo Basic Methods for Photomicrography
This paper is intended as a basic explanation of two methods used to place the image formed by a compound microscope onto the sensor or film of a camera. It is primarily directed at those wishing to do photomicrography with cameras they might already own and use for general photography. It does not deal at all with dedicated microscope cameras. A more detailed look at the necessary sensor speci...
متن کاملA new approach to low power photomicrography.
Several factors contribute to the poor quality often observed in photomicrographs made at low magnification. The oculars may be difficult to adjust to suit the individual observer; it may be difficult to focus the photomicroscope on the specimen; uniform illumination may be difficult to obtain and the photomontage techniques necessary for larger specimens require considerable skill.' We have de...
